• Have pupils underline all the words in the comic strip that have the ow sound. (down,
now)
Note: Remind pupils that sometimes the letters ow make the sound of oh as in the word
know.
• Have pupils practice reading the sentences aloud.
• Refer the pupils to Let’s Practice, exercise 1 on page 174. Play CD Track 70 and
have pupils underline the words they hear: (1. cow, 2. mouse, 3. brown, 4. mouth,
5. cloud, 6. house, 7. now, 8. down)
• Write the answers on the board and have pupils check their work.
• Have pupils circle the two letter combinations that make the sound that they hear.

Point out the Language Focus box. Review the use of the possessive pronouns my/
your. Hold a book in your hand, point to yourself and say: This is my book. Now take
a book from a pupil’s desk, point to the pupil and say: This is your book. Introduce the
possessive pronouns his/her by pointing to the boy you took the book from and say
to the class: This is his book. Take a book from a girl and say to the class: This is her
book. Elicit how the possessives are used in the pupils’ L1. Have pupils explain the
difference.
