What did the pandas wish for? (bamboo trees)
1. Listen and Chant

Play CD Track 54 and chant together with pupils.
Have pupils circle all words with apostrophe s (here's, it's x3)
Write the words on the board, eliciting the apostrophe is used to stand for a missing
letter.
Write examples on the board of other contractions. (he's - he is, she's - she is, that's
- that is, don't - do not, can't - can not) Explain that in English two words are often
combined using an apostrophe to replace a letter.
Have pupils underline the rhyming words. (you, true, too)
Read the chant with the class.

Tell pupils that they are going to read a story from the book that Henry and Lucy got
from the pandas as a gift. Tell them that it is a story about how the pandas got their
spots.
Put the word card for cave on the board and teach the word cave.
Put the word card for jump on the board and teach the word jump.
Play CD Track 55.
Ask: Who are the main characters? (a girl, cubs, a lion, a mother bear) Where does
the story take place? (in a cave) Is it real or imaginary? (imaginary)
