Play CD Track 53.
Have pupils read silently and circle the words green/clean and fall/tall.
Ask pupils if they know other words that rhyme with green and clean (queen, jean[s],
thirteen, nineteen) and with fall and tall (ball, call, wall).
Tell pupils to close their eyes and try to picture the scene as you read the poem. Have
pupils open their eyes and share what they saw when their eyes were closed.
Ask pupils how they felt when you read the chant. Suggest this is a hopeful chant as it
reflects that the kids’ and the pandas’ wish came true; the forest is green, bamboo trees
are growing and the pandas will not be hungry anymore.
Reflection
This unit suggests an imaginary solution to a real problem. Ask: What real solutions are there for
saving the pandas?
