• Point out the Language Focus box on page 129. Write the words this is/this is not on
the board. Explain that we use this is or this is not when we are talking about a specific
item. Explain the shortened form of this is not a… – this isn’t a… Elicit the letter that is
omitted (o) and the use of the apostrophe instead of the letter.
• Point to the door and ask: Is this a window? Encourage pupils to answer in full
sentences: No, this is not/isn’t a window. This is a door.
• Elicit the names of other objects in the classroom. Write them on the board. Have pupils
use the words to ask similar questions as above.
4. Read and Say
Write the words nose and close on the board.
Remind pupils that the letter e at the end of a word is sometimes "magic". It is silent and
causes the vowel before it to "say its name". Have pupils read the words.

5. Let’s Play: Bingo
•
Instruct pupils to write, in pencil, one word from the word bank in each box on the
BINGO board. Tell pupils that when you call out a word, they tick the box that word is in.
Call out one word at a time and mark on your sheet the word you called. When a pupil
gets BINGO, have him read out the words. The winner of the game is the first to cover a
row of three words.
