from the story? (It is good to help others.)
1. Listen and Chant

Play CD Track 51 and chant together with pupils.
Have pupils read the chant and circle the word we. Ask: Who does the word we refer
to? (Henry and Lucy)
Have pupils read silently, circling words that contain the letter combination th (Thanks,
something, others). Write these words on the board. Remind pupils that sometimes in
English two letters combine to make a new sound, as with ch and ph. Elicit other words
that have the th combination in them. (three, this, the, they, that, there, with, Earth)

Ask pupils to find out who helps Henry and Lucy while they read the text.
Have pupils scan the text and circle the word tree.
Have pupils scan and circle the kind of trees mentioned (bamboo, orange, date,
mango).
Have pupils scan the text and ask:
o Why do Henry and Lucy need help? (They cannot make bamboo trees.)
o Who comes to Henry and Lucy? (Princess Meg)
o What does she tell the pandas to do? (close your eyes and wish for bamboo trees)
Have pupils underline this sentence in the text.
o What happens when the pandas open their eyes? (There are bamboo trees.)
o What is the magic? (The pandas are eating the leaves and the leaves are growing
again.)
