• Divide the class into two groups. Each group chooses one pupil to be a judge and one

Group A begins. The commander tells all pupils in Group B what to do: look to your
right/left; look up/down; stand up/sit down, clap your hands, touch your head, touch
your nose, etc.
The judge watches to see if any pupils make mistakes and asks them to sit down. They
are “out” of the game.
Next, Group B commander gives the commands to pupils in Group A. Repeat until only
one pupil is left standing in each group.
Read and Chant
• Read the chant with the class.
• Have pupils circle the words here and near. Point out the different spelling patterns.
Ask pupils if they know other words that rhyme with here and near. List these words
on the board, noting the different spelling patterns that create the same sound. (dear,
ear, year)
