Adult: I’m going to show you how to make cookies.
Kid:
Great. What do we need?
Adult: Look here at the things we need. We call these ingredients.
Kid:
Ingredients. That’s a long word.
Adult: Yes – but now you know it. We need these five ingredients.
First, we need flour.
Kid:
Here’s the bag of flour.
Adult: We need two cups of flour.
Kid:
Here – here are two cups of flour.
Adult: Then we need one cup of butter. Butter makes the cookies taste great.
Kid:
Here’s the butter. It’s nice and soft.
Adult: Now we need some sugar. Just half a cup of sugar.
Kid:
Will the cookies be sweet? Is half a cup of sugar going to make them sweet?
Adult: Yes, half a cup of sugar will make the cookies very sweet.
Next we need two eggs.
Kid:
Here are the eggs. One is brown and one is white.
Adult: Great! The last thing we need is one cup of jam.
Kid:
Jam? What kind of jam?
Adult: You can use one cup of strawberry jam or one cup of plum jam.
Kid:
Here is the strawberry jam. It’s my favorite jam.
Adult: Now we are ready to make the cookies.
