Henry & Lucy Teacher's Guide - Book - Page 120
• Play the game: Find the Pair
Have one pupil at a time come to the board and turn over two cards. If they have a "pair"
they put the word and picture card facing front on the board and get another turn. If the
cards they choose do not match they sit down and another pupil comes up and tries. Make
sure that there is a lot of oral review of the names of each item, by having pupils say what
is in each picture card that they select, and reading what is written on each word card that
they select.
Continue the game until all the cards are arranged in pairs.
2. Think and Decide
• Have pupils name as many things as they can from the picture.
• Elicit the differences between a New Year’s parade in China and parades in their country.
3. Talk Together
• Have pupils listen as you make some true and some false statements about the picture of
the parade. E.g. There is one kite in the sky. (False – there are many kites). There is a lion
and giraffe mask. (True) There is a banner in English. (False – it is in Chinese).
• Point out the Language Focus box. Explain that another way of describing things is by
using the form there is for singular nouns and there are for plural nouns. Elicit descriptions
of the classroom using there is/there are; there is a picture on the wall/there are desks
in the room. Pupils then practice using there is/there are contextually by describing the
picture. Explain that there’s = there is.
• Invite individual pupils to make true or false statements about the picture. Encourage them
to use the structure There is or There are and to use prepositions. E.g. There are cookies
