Ask: Where are Henry and Lucy going? (to the forest on the mountain to help the pandas)
1. Listen and Chant
• Play CD Track 42 and chant together with pupils.
• Have pupils read silently, circling all the capital letters.
• Write all the words that have capitals on the board. (Moonbeam, Let's, It's, China, The)
Point out the reasons they are capitalized. (beginning of a sentence or the name of a
country)
• Remind pupils that this is the type of chant they always read just before a new adventure.
• Point out China on the world map on pages 10-11.
• Have pupils open their books to the picture of the New Year's Parade in China on page 110.
Discuss with pupils that the New Year is celebrated in China with costumes, masks, parades

• Ask: What adventures do you think the kids might have there? What might they find? Who
might they meet?
• Teach the words: mouse, mask, dragon, parade, New Year in the following manner:
• Put the picture cards on the board one at a time, saying the name of each picture and
having pupils repeat after you.
• Hold up one word card at a time, having pupils volunteer to read the card and come to the
front and put it on the board next to the matching picture card.
• Remove all word and picture cards from the board, shuffle them and replace them, face
down in random order on the board.
