Henry & Lucy Teacher's Guide - Book - Page 115
Unit 3 3
3. Let’s Play: I Spy With My Little Eye
• Tell pupils that you are thinking of one item and only one item in the picture on page 106.
Say: I spy with my little eye, something red. Pupils continue guessing until they say the red
coat. The pupil who guesses correctly gets a turn to stand in front of the class and select
an item. It is possible to have pupils play this game in pairs at their desks.
• Ask pupils which items they think Henry and Lucy will take with them on their adventure.
4. Talk Together
• Point out the Language Focus box and explain that the word will is added to the verb when
we talk about plans for the future. Explain the shortened form that is more frequently used.
Elicit the letters that are omitted in the short form (wi). Practice the form I will take = I’ll;
Henry will take, He will = he’ll; Lucy will take = she will = she’ll.
• Tell pupils to mark in the "I will take" column, those items that they would put in their
suitcase if they were packing for a trip to China.
• Have pupils sit in pairs, share their choices and mark in the "My friend will take" column,
those items that their partner chose. Explain that they need to ask each other: What will
you take to China? and then mark their partner’s answer.
• Discuss each piece of clothing with the class, having pupils say why an item might or might
not be needed in China. E.g. I will take an umbrella. It rains in the forest. I will not take
sandals. It is cold in the forest.
