Have pupils look at the Panda Fact Card and elicit the information that needs to be
filled in.
Instruct pupils to fill in the missing information on the Panda Fact Card, referring to the
strips on the board or their book for help. (1. big white heads and bodies, black and white
spots, small black ears, eyes and legs, pink when babies, 2. bamboo leaves, 3. in forests
in China, 4. run and play, 5. accept all logical answers)
Have individual pupils read the answers aloud as the rest of the class checks their work.
Encourage pupils to share information about other animals and their habits.

Tell pupils to circle the letter y in the text. Ask what sound it makes in each word. Explain
that the letter y that follows a consonant at the end of a two syllable word makes the long
/e/ sound.
Review the letter combination ea and that it also makes the long /e/ sound.
Have pupils turn to Let’s Practice, Exercise 1 on page 105 (Track 38).
Tell pupils to listen and circle the words that have the long /e/ sound. (1. three, family

Write the words color, eat, live and like to do on the board. Read aloud The Dolphin text.
Instruct pupils to scan the text on the dolphin to find a color, a food, a place to live and a
thing to do. Ask:
What color are dolphins? (gray)
What do they eat? (fish)
Where do they live? (in the ocean)
What do they like to do? (play and jump in and out of the water)
Have pupils underline the information in the text.
Repeat the activity with the elephant text.
Repeat the activity with the tiger text.
6. Write and Share

Explain to pupils that their task is to make a fact card about the dolphin, the elephant or
the tiger using the information on pages 101-102.
Have pupils work in pairs. One pupil fills in the fact card about the tiger while the other
pupil fills in the fact card about the elephant or dolphin. Pupils then share the information
by reading out their fact card to their partner.
To check the activity, have individual pupils read aloud one of the facts on the fact cards
