Ask who the word we refers to (the twins and us, the readers! It is a plea for help to anyone
who reads the poster to save the pandas.)
Ask pupils what additional information would be helpful in saving the pandas. (knowing
what food they need, and why they cannot get this food by themselves)
2. Read
• Put the following picture and word cards on the board: head, legs, body, bamboo trees,
mountain, forest.
• Point to each picture and word, read it and have the whole class repeat after you.
• Remove the pictures from the board and ask pupils to read the words without the
pictures.
• Ask individual pupils to come to the front of the class and take one picture and put it next
to the correct word.
• Tell pupils they are going to learn many facts about pandas.
• Read the facts aloud to pupils. Use L1 to explain where necessary.
• Write the following titles on the board:
1. What Pandas Look Like
2. Where Pandas Live
3. What Pandas Eat
4. What Pandas Do
• Divide the class into groups of six pupils and assign a title to each group. Hand out four
blank strips to each group. Each group reads the facts and decides which facts belong to
their title, and writes the facts on the strips. Have representatives from each group come to
