• Describe one of the pictures in the travel album. Have pupils identify the picture you are

Have pupils do the activity in pairs. Have the pairs turn to another pair and check the

• Before doing the activity in the book, write on the board: cut, cute
• Model how the "magic" e at the end of the word changes the sound of the vowel /u/ from

the short form to the long form, causing the vowel to "say its name".
Have pupils circle the words with the letter u. Focus on the long and short /u/ sounds.
Have pupils do Let’s Practice, Exercise 1 on page 93.
Draw two columns on the board: Long u, Short u. Have pupils come to the board and write
the words under the suitable column. (Long u: tune, flute, cute; Short u: fun, run, drum, cut,
jump)
4. Let’s Play
• This game serves as a review of the unit and also practices sentence structure.
• Pupils need to move around the room and find their match. Each pupil has only one part of

a sentence. When pupils find their match they sit down at their desks. Give points to pupils
who find their matches in the shortest time.
Prepare split sentences on cards. Choose from the list on the following page:
