Dear Teachers,
FUN WITH PHONICS is a supplementary workbook for students who
are familiar with the English alphabet and individual letter sounds. It is
designed for classroom use as well as for individual study.
The book helps students practice and master 30 different digraphs (i.e. th,
ch and sh), vowel combinations (i.e. ee, ea, ou) and consonant blends
(i.e. -nd, st-). It can be used either while working on basic reading skills or
for review.
The lessons in FUN WITH PHONICS are divided into two sections.
Section One offers practice of individual letters and sounds. Section
Two offers practice of digraphs, vowel combinations and more
advanced consonant blends.
Each lesson is based on a funny, easy-to-read poem, with learning
progression broken down into three stages:
1. Introduction to new vocabulary
2. Short illustrated text
3. Follow-up reading comprehension questions
Remember that every line in a poem starts with a capital letter.
At English Adventure we believe that it is vital for children to read texts
aloud since they often self-correct when they hear themselves read.
Reading aloud also offers a great opportunity for verbal interaction with
you, their parents or their peers.
