How many sounds does the word ‘desk’ have? (Elicit: 4)
Say and use your fingers to count the sounds: /d/ /e/ /s/ /k/ ‘desk’
Have the pupils say the sounds and count with you.

Say: Listen and circle the picture that begins with the sound you hear.
1. In row #1, circle the picture that begins with the sound /k/.
2. In row #2, circle the picture that begins with the sound /s/.
3. In row #3, circle the picture that begins with the sound /p/.

Say: Look at #1. Which picture did you circle? (Elicit: camp)
What sound do you hear in the beginning of the word ‘camp’? (Elicit: /k/)
What letter makes the sound /k/? (Elicit: the letter C)
Repeat for rows 2 and 3.

Say: Look at #7.
•
Say: Look at #1. What is this? (Elicit: This is a classroom.)
•
Ask: How many parts does the word ‘classroom’ have? (Elicit: 2)
Say and clap to count the syllables: /klas/ /room/ ‘classroom’
Have the pupils say the syllables and count with you.
Say: Listen to the words. Let's count the parts together by clapping our hands. Circle
the number of parts you hear.
