Introductions and Greetings
Greetings

Say (use L1 if needed, be sure to include much praise and encouragement in English):
Well done! We have learned many new words and read stories in English! Now, in
our new unit we will begin to learn the letters, the sounds they make, and how to
write them.

Go around the room and have Max ask different pupils:
Hello, what is your name? (Elicit: My name is…)
Good morning. How are you? (Elicit: I am fine, thank you.)
Are you a boy or a girl? (Elicit: I am a boy/girl.)
Song
•
Sing “If You're a Boy/Girl” (song #1.8) and have pupils do movements as prompted by
the song.
Lexical Chunks

Teach the new lexical chunks using previously taught vocabulary: What do you see?
I see…
Show flashcards one at a time and ask: What do you see? I see a
(house/tree/girl/ball).
Show ‘house’ flashcard and ask: What do you see?
Have the pupils respond: I see (a house).
Repeat for each word.
Have pupils look around the classroom and point to things. Say: What do you see?
(Elicit and have pupils point: I see windows/door/etc.)
