Use the prepositions to review the lexical chunk: Where is (the) _____?

Show the cover page of the story The Happy Tree House (Epic Stories page 27). Point
to different parts of the image and ask: Where is (the) _____ ?

Point to the tree and ask: Where is the tree? (Elicit: The tree is in the yard.)
Point to the tree house and ask: Where is the house? (Elicit: The house is in the
tree.)
Point to the boy in the tire swing and ask: Where is the boy? (Elicit: The boy is
under the tree.)
Point to the ball and ask: Where is the ball? (Elicit: The ball is near the boys.)
Have the pupils do the gestures for the prepositions to illustrate the meaning.

Read the story The Happy Tree House page by page.
•
Say: Open your Epic Stories to the story on page 27.
•
Encourage the pupils to repeat the lines in the story after each page.
•
After finishing the story, ask: At the beginning of the story, is John happy
or sad? (Elicit: sad)
At the end of the story, is John happy or sad? (Elicit: happy)
Do you have a brothers or sisters in your family like Mike and John? (Ask several
pupils. Elicit: yes or no)

If yes, ask: How many brothers/sisters do you have? and/or What is your
brother/sister’s name?

Say: Open your Course Books to page 28.
•
Say: Number the pictures in the order they happen in the story. Use the story in
Epic Stories to help you.
•
Give pupils a few minutes to do this on their own or with a partner.
•
Call on a pupil to choose the picture that happens first in the story.
Have the pupil use relevant vocabulary to describe the scene in the picture.
Then call another pupil until all the pictures are in the correct sequence.
