Say: All the words have the sound /t/. Listen to the words and mark where you
hear the sound – in the beginning, middle, or end of the word.

The first one is done for the pupils. Point to #1 and say: quiet
Ask: Do you hear /t/ in the beginning of the word? (Elicit: no)
Ask: Do you hear /t/ in the middle of the word? (Elicit: no)
Ask: Do you hear /t/ at the end of the word? (Elicit: yes)
Show pupils the check mark in the third box.
Say: 2. sister

Reveal to check answers.
Ask: Which words begin with the sound /t/? (Elicit: tree, two)
Ask: Which words end with the sound /t/? (Elicit: quiet, white, left)
Ask: Which word has the sound /t/ in the middle? (Elicit: sister)

Say: Open your Course Books to page 27. Look at #3.

Do the first one together with the class.
•
Say: Look at #1. What is this? (Elicit: This is a monkey.)
•
Ask: How many parts does the word 'monkey' have? (Elicit: 2)
Say and clap to count the syllables: /mon/ /key/ 'monkey'
Have the pupils say the syllables and count with you.
Say: Listen to the words. Let's count the parts together by clapping our hands.
Circle the number of parts you hear.

Give pupils some time to do this on their own or with a partner.

Say: Look at #2. What is this? (Elicit: on)

Repeat for all the words.
