Click to pop the correct balloon.
If the pupil pops the wrong balloon, or after three rounds (whichever is first), a
pupil from the other team can take a turn. When that pupil answers incorrectly,
choose a different pupil from the first team to take a turn.
Song
•
Chant “A House with a Door” (song #1.26) to review the parts of the house, and have
pupils do the movements.
Phonemic Awareness
•
Say: Open your Course Books to page 26. Look at #1.
•
Point to ‘bed’ in #1 and ask: What is this? (Elicit: This is a bed.). Ask:
•
What sound do you hear at the beginning of the word ‘bed’? (Elicit: /b/)
What sound do you hear in the middle of the word ‘bed’? (Elicit: /e/)
What sound do you hear at the end of the word ‘bed’? (Elicit: /d/)
How many sounds does the word ‘bed’ have? (Elicit: 3)
Say and use your fingers to count the sounds: /b/ /e/ /d/ ‘bed’
Have the pupils say the sounds and count with you.
Do the activity with the pupils together as a class.
Say: Look at #1.
Before completing each row, have pupils "read" the pictures across each row out
loud to review the words. Pupils should use their finger to follow the pictures as
they move from left to right.
Say: Circle the words that end with the sound/d/.
Point to each word as you ask: What sound do you hear at the end of the word
(bed)? (Elicit the sound: (/d/))
If the word begins with the correct sound, have pupils circle the picture.
Repeat for rows 2 and 3:
2. Circle the words that end with /n/.
3. Circle the words that end with /r/.
•
Reveal to check answers.
•
Say: Look at #1. Which pictures did you circle? (Elicit: bed, friend, yard)
What sound do you hear at the end of the words ‘bed, friend, yard’? (Elicit: /d/)
Do you have the same sound /d/ in your language?
Repeat for rows 2 and 3.
