18. I Spy…
•
Show the flashcards.
•
Make binoculars with your hands and say: I spy with my little eye something that
begins with the letter (B) and the sound (/b/).
•
Have pupils identify the correct word. Play a few rounds.
•
Choose a pupil to be the spy and say: I spy with my little eye…
19. Go Fish
•
Before playing, have pupils cut out the game cards from the Course Book and review
the vocabulary.
•
Pupils should get into small groups of four players.
•
Pupils should mix up four sets of cards (one set from each player).
•
Each player receives five cards (to hold so they are not visible to the other players),
and the rest are left face down in a pile in the middle.
•
One pupil asks another: (Pupil’s name), do you have (a cat)?
•
If the pupil has the card, they give the card or cards to the player who asked and say:
Yes, I have (a cat).
•
If the pupil does not have the card, the player who asked takes a card from the pile in
the middle.
•
Once a pupil is holding 4 of the same animal/word, they can place the set face up in
front of them and say: I have four (cats).
•
The pupil with the most sets at the end wins.
20. Chain Game
•
The game can be adapted to other vocabulary topics by modifying the main phrase
"At the zoo…"
For example: In the classroom… / At the store…, etc.
•
Show the flashcards.
•
Say: At the zoo I see (a gorilla).
•
Demonstrate the game by asking a pupil to repeat after you, and then add another
animal to the list: At the zoo I see (a gorilla) and (an elephant).
•
The next pupil must repeat the previous two animals and add a third.
•
Continue until all pupils have had a chance to add to the sentence.
•
If a pupil gets stuck, point to the flashcard to remind the pupil of the word, or ask
the class to help.
•
Have pupils play in groups. The larger the group, the more difficult the game is.
