EPIC Teacher's Guide - Book - Page 45
Act It Out
•
Say: Open your Epic Stories to the story on page 5.
•
Have pupils use Course Book page 13 to help them retell the story.
After cutting on the cut lines, show pupils how to fold up each monkey flap so
that it is hidden.
Have the pupils practice by showing you different numbers of monkeys. Say:
(Four) little monkeys jumping on the bed. (Pupils should hold up the page with
one monkey hidden.)
Repeat with different numbers 1-5.
•
Read the story Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed (or play the audio file). Have
pupils follow along with the story.
•
Encourage the pupils to complete the lines in the story as it is read and do gestures to
act out the story.
•
Each time a monkey falls off the bed, pupils should hide one more monkey on their
Course Book page but folding it upwards, until, by the end of the story, there are no
more monkeys visible.
•
After finishing the story, ask:
What do the monkeys do in the story? (Elicit: jump on the bed)
Use L1 if needed: Do you like to jump? Where do you jump?
Wrapping Up
