Course Book

sentences, for example: This is a big dog. This is a red van. This is a long pen, etc.
•
Say: Write one word from each box to describe what you see.
Do the first one with the pupils. Say: Look at #1. What is this? (Elicit: This is a
hat.)
Ask: Is the hat red, big, fat, soft, small, or long? (Elicit: red)
Point to the word in each box that the pupils should write, and say: This is a red
hat.
Say: Trace the words.
•
Give pupils a few minutes to complete the page on their own or with a partner.
•

Reading and Writing
Epic Stories
•
Say: Open your Epic Stories to page 119.
•
Point to the vowels and say the letters and short vowel sounds together
with the pupils: The letter is A and the sound is /a/, etc.
•
Point to the vocabulary one at a time and read each word together with the
pupils: fan, wet, swim, hot, run
Point and ask: What sound do you hear in the middle of the word?
(Elicit the sound for each word: /a/, /e/, /i/, /o/, /u/)
Say a word and have pupils hold up the correct number of fingers (1-6) to
represent the number of the word. For example, if you say “wet,” pupils should
hold up 2 fingers.
Then, say a number and have pupils say the word that matches the number.
