Say: Look at #2. What is this? (Elicit: rain)
Ask: How many parts do you hear in the word? (Elicit: 1)
Together with the pupils say and clap your hands 1 time: ‘rain’
Repeat for all the words.

Say: Look at #4.

Say: Match the rhyming words.
The first one is done for the pupils. Point to the first word on the left and say the
word: tall
Say: Look at the words on the right. What rhymes with "tall"? (Elicit: ball)
Say: Draw a line from "tall" to "ball".

Give pupils a few minutes to complete the task on their own or with a partner.
•
Reveal to check answers.
•
Point to the second word on the left. Say: Read the word. (Elicit: run)
What rhymes with "run"? (Elicit: fun)
What other words do you know that rhyme with "run/fun"? (Elicit: sun)
Repeat for each pair of rhyming words. Challenge pupils to say other words that
rhyme with each pair.

Say: Match the big letters to the small letters.

Give pupils a few minutes to do this on their own or with a partner.

Say: Look at #6.
•
Say: Say the words to a friend. Write the missing letters.

Do the first one with the pupils. Point and ask: What do you see? (Elicit: I see a
van.)
What sound does the word 'van' begin with? (Elicit: /v/)
What letter makes the sound /v/? (Elicit: the letter V)
Point to the letter v and have pupils complete the word. Say: /v/ (Elicit: /an/)
Say: What two letters make the sound /an/? (Elicit: the letters A and N)
Say: Write the letters to complete the word 'van.'
Give pupils a few minutes to do this with a partner.
