Say: Open your Course Books to page 159. Look at #3.

Introduce the sight words: he, she, it
Remind pupils of the lexical chunks “He is a boy. / She is a girl.” and
“It is a ___ .“
Give some examples from the stories of when we use he/she/it:

“Andy takes off his scarf. He takes off his jacket.” (from The Wind and the
Sun)

She is surprised. Happy Birthday, Mrs. Anderson! (from Together is Better)
-
It must be an elephant. It is very strong. (from What Am I?)
Tell pupils that “he” is used for a boy or man, “she” is used for a girl or woman.
“It” is used for both objects and animals, only people can be called “he” or “she.”
Tell pupils that these are other little words in English that they will see often and
that pupils should "take a picture of" them in their mind so they can recognize
them.
Remind pupils of the sight word they learned previously: I, see, a, am, the, on,
has, is

Say: Colors the words “he, she,” and “it” in blue.
•
Say: Write the words in the boxes.
•
Say the sentences together with the pupils: He is a king. She is a queen. It is an
umbrella.
•
Say: Look at #4.
•
Ask: What or who do you see? (Elicit: I see a/an king, queen, umbrella, lion,
dad/father, apple, alligator, mom/mother.)
•
Say: Trace the words. Write the correct word “he,” “she,” or “it” to describe the
picture.
•
Reveal to check answers.
•
Say: Look at #5.
•
Ask: What or who do you see? (Elicit: I see a man, a woman, and a hen.)
•
Say: Read the sentences. Write the correct word “he,” “she,” or “it” to complete
the sentences.
Remind the pupils that sentences in English always begin with a big letter.

Reveal to check answers.
•
Call a pupil to read the two sentences under each picture.
