The Story: The Wind and the Sun
Pre-Reading

Say: Open your Epic Stories to the story on page 99.
•
Show the book cover of the story The Wind and the Sun.
Point and ask: What do you see? (Elicit: I see a boy, the sun, the wind)
What does the boy have? (Elicit: The boy has a hat, a scarf, and a
jacket.)
•
Ask: Can anybody read the title of the story? (Elicit: The Wind and the Sun)
•
Give pupils a few minutes to explore the story on their own or with a partner by
scanning it in their Epic Stories book from page 99 to page 115. Ask:
•
Find the words “king” and “queen” in the text of the story. On which page(s)
did you find them?
Look at the boy, Andy, on page 109. What color is his jacket/scarf/hat?
Find a picture where Andy is cold. On which page did you find it? Find a picture
where Andy is hot. On which page did you find it?
Say: Let’s read and find out what will happen in the story.
First Reading
•
Read the story The Wind and the Sun all the way through (or play the audio file).
•
After reading, ask questions related to the story.
•
Ask: Who is the king of the sky? (Elicit: The Wind)
•
Who is the queen of the sky? (Elicit: The Sun)
Who is stronger – the Wind or the Sun? (Elicit: The Sun)
Say: Look at the last page of the story (Epic Stories pages 114 & 115). Ask:
Who is the best – the Wind or the Sun? (Elicit: The Sun is best.)
Second Reading and Story Script: The Wind and the Sun

Read the story again, page by page. While reading, stop at each page and ask
questions to ensure pupils comprehend and to elicit vocabulary that the pupils have
learned.
•
Pupils should follow along with the story in their Epic Stories book and read the story
along with you.
