Challenge strong pupils (or a strong class) to write the whole words by sounding the
phonemes of the words out together: Max, box, six, mix
•
Say: Open your Course Books to page 149. Look at #7.
•
Ask: What do you see? (Elicit: I see (a) Max, six, mix, box, next to)
Have pupils point to and read the words in the word box.

Say: Write the words under the correct picture.
•
Reveal to check answers.
•
Say: Look at #8.
•
Say: Read the sentences. Mark in the YES box if the picture you see matches the
sentence, and in the NO box if it does not.
•
Give pupils a few minutes to do this on their own or with a partner.
•
Reveal to check answers.
•
Point to #1 and read the sentence together with the pupils: Max is on the box.
Ask: Is Max on the box? (Elicit: No. Max is on the mat.)
Repeat for each sentence, eliciting the correct sentence for those that do not
match the picture.
ABC Notebook
•
Say: Open your ABC Notebooks to page 206.
•
Ask: What letter is this? (Elicit: the letter U)
•
What sound does the letter U make? (Elicit: /u/)
Say together with the pupils: The letter is U and the sound is /u/.
Say: Find the letter Uu sticker on sticker page 3. Put the sticker on the letter Uu on
page 206 in the ABC Notebook.
Trace and write the big and small letters Uu to complete the page.

Give pupils some time to complete the page independently.
•
Say: Find the sticker pictures that begin with the sound /u/ on sticker page 4 and
stick them in the ABC Notebook.
•
Read the words together with the pupils before they trace and write on their own.
Sound out each letter before putting the words together: up, under, sun, fun, run,
bus.
Say: Point to the letter U at the beginning of the words “up, under, umbrella.”
Point to the letter U in the middle of the words “sun, fun, run, bus.”
