Say: Open your Course Books to page 147.

Review the words by reading them together as a class or allowing pairs of pupils to
read together before completing the task.
•
Say: Read and write the words in the correct box.
Point to the columns and show pupils where to write words with the sound /u/
in the beginning, /i/ in the beginning, /u/ in the middle, and /i/ in the middle.
•
Give pupils a few minutes to do this on their own or with a partner.
•
Reveal to check answers.
•
Say: Circle the words that begin with the sound /u/ in blue. (Elicit:
umbrella/under/up)
Circle the words that begin with the sound /i/ in green. (Elicit: igloo/in)
Circle the words that have the sound /u/ in the middle in orange. (Elicit:
run/bus/sun/cut/jump)
Circle the words that have the sound /i/ in the middle in yellow. (Elicit:
