Teach the new lexical chunk: What color is…?
Show the balloon flashcards one at a time and ask: What color is the balloon?
(Elicit: red/yellow/blue/green/orange/pink/purple/black/brown/white)
Repeat for all the colors of the balloons.
Teach the new lexical chunk: How many?
Show all the balloon flashcards and ask: How many balloons do you see? (Count
together with the pupils 1-10 and elicit: ten balloons)
Course Book

Show your Course Book to the class. Say: This is the Course Book.
•
Point out that books in English open from the left to the right. Show the pupils how
you open yours.
•
Briefly explain to pupils the structure of the book (use L1 when needed):
•
Say: Open to the Table of Contents on page 2.
Show pupils that first they will work on Getting Ready, and
then there are 5 more units in the book, each around a
different topic. Tell pupils that in each unit they will learn
new words, new letters, and new stories.
Say: Open your Course Books to page 5.
Point to the monkeys and ask: What color is this? (Elicit: red,
orange, green, yellow, blue)
Count the monkeys together with the pupils: 1-5

Say: Open your Course Books to page 6. Look at #1.
•
Ask: What do you see? (Elicit: balloons)
What color is #1? (Elicit: blue)
Repeat for all the colors.

Say: Look at the numbers and color the balloons.
•
Reveal to check answers.
•
Ask: How many blue balloons do you see? (Elicit: two)
Repeat for each color.
