Review the words before giving pupils some time to do the task on their own or with
a partner.

Say: Draw a line from the pictures to the letter that makes the beginning sound of
the word. Write the letter.

Reveal to check answers.

Point to the letter O and ask: What letter is this? (Elicit: the letter O)
What sound does the letter O make? (Elicit: /o/)
What words being with the sound /o/? (Elicit: orange, open)
Repeat for all the letters.

Challenge strong pupils (or a strong class) to write the whole words by sounding the
phonemes of the words out together: red, rest, open, net

Say: Open your ABC Notebooks to page 189.
•
Complete the page according to the instructions on page 15.

Read the words together with the pupils before they trace and write on their own.
Sound out each letter before putting the words together: dog, mad, had, bad, dad.
Teach the new vocabulary words "had" and “bad” (use L1 if needed to explain
the meaning).
Teach the new vocabulary word "dad" and explain to pupils in English "father"
has another name that means the same but is more casual (use L1 if needed to
explain the meaning). Say and read the word with the pupils: Father is 'dad.'
Say: Point to the letter D at the beginning of the words “dog, dad.” Point to the
letter D at the end of the words “mad, had, bad, dad.”
