Ask: What sound do you hear at the beginning of the words? (Elicit: /d/)
Point to the letter Dd. Trace the letters with your finger on the board. Have the pupils
trace in their Course Books.
As you trace, say together with the pupils: The letter is D and the sound is /d/.

Say: Write the first letter of the word under each picture. Write the big letter and
small letter.
•
While pupils are working, walk around checking that pupils are writing the letter
accurately.

Reveal to check answers.

Point to the 'dog' and ask: What is this? (Elicit: dog)
What sound do you hear at the beginning of the word 'dog'? (Elicit: /d/)
What letter makes the sound /d/? (Elicit: the letter D)
Repeat for the other pictures.

Review the vocabulary using the flashcard: on, orange.
Show 'on' flashcard and ask: Where is the boy? (Elicit: on the desk)
Show 'orange' flashcard and ask: What color is this? (Elicit: orange)
Ask: What sound do you hear at the beginning of the word? (Elicit: /o/)
Show the letter Oo flashcard and say: The letter is O and the sound is /o/.

Teach the new vocabulary using the flashcard and gesture.
Present the card, say the word, and gesture like you are opening a door: open
Have pupils repeat the word.
Show pupils the "O" shape of your mouth as you pronounce the sound and say
the word. Say: Open your mouth.
Say and have pupils do or mime the actions: Open the door. Open the window.
Open your book. Open your bag.
Say: The letter is O and the sound is /o/.
Have the pupils repeat.
Ask: Look at your name cards. Does anyone's name begin with the letter O?
