Remind pupils that you say “an” before a word that begins with the sounds /a, e, I, o,
u/, and for all the rest you say “a” (use L1 if needed).

Together with the pupils, read the sentences, say the names of the animals and circle
a/an. Say: Read the sentences and circle the correct word “a” or “an”.

Point to the elephant and ask: What animal is this? (Elicit: elephant)
Ask: What sound do you hear at the beginning of the word 'elephant'? (Elicit:
/e/)
Ask: Do you say "a" or "an" before a word that beings with the sound /e/?
(Elicit: an)
Say and have pupils repeat after you: This is an elephant.
Have pupils circle the correct answer and repeat for each animal.
Reveal to check answers.

Review the letter W by showing the Ww flashcard and asking: What is the name of
the letter? (Elicit: the letter W)
What sound does it make? (Elicit: /w/)
What words do you know that begin with the letter W? (Elicit: window, woman,
wheat, wind, etc.)
Say together with the pupils: The letter is W and the sound is /w/.
Repeat to review the letters R, N.
