Say: Read the sentences and match them to the correct picture.
Do the first one with the pupils. Read the first sentence together with the pupils,
pointing at each word as you read: The cat is fat.
Have pupils draw a line from the first sentence to the image of the fat cat.

Review the words before giving pupils some time to do the task on their own or

Say: Write the first letter of the word under each picture.

What sound do you hear at the beginning of the word 'mad'? (Elicit: /m/)
What letter makes the sound /m/? (Elicit: the letter M)
Repeat for the other pictures.

Ask: What do you see? (Elicit: I see (a) milk, desk, six, bed, legs, pink.)

Say: Listen to the sound in the middle of the word and check the sound /i/ or /e/.

sound do you hear in the middle of the word? (Elicit: /i/)
