Say: Where is Little Red Hen? Listen and write the number in the correct box.

3. Little Red Hen is near the fan.
4. Little Red Hen is under the desk.
5. Little Red Hen is on the bed.
6. Little Red Hen is near the White Cat.

Ask: Where is the Little Red Hen in #1? (Elicit: Little Red Hen is on the mat.)
Repeat for each picture.

Say: Look at #2.

Read the poem aloud to the pupils. Point to each word you read and have pupils
follow along from left to right. Elicit the words at the end of the sentences (the
pictures):
Fat cat, fat cat on the… (Elicit: fan).
Fat cat, fat cat near the… (Elicit: man).
Fat cat, fat cat under the… (Elicit: mat).
Fat cat, fat cat in the… (Elicit: hat).

Read the poem again, asking different pupils to read each line.

Say: Now, circle the pictures that rhyme in different colors.
•
Reveal to check answers.
•
Ask: Which words or pictures rhyme? (Elicit: fan/man, mat/hat)
How do you know? (Elicit (in L1 if necessary) that each pair of words has the
same end sound: /an/, /at/)
