Act It Out
•
Say: Open your Epic Stories to the story on page 63.
•
Read the story The Little Red Hen (or play the audio file). Have pupils follow along
with the story.
•
Encourage pupils to produce the vocabulary they learned.
•
Act out and do gestures for the story, and have pupils use their Hen/Duck/Dog/Cat
puppets to act out the story.
•
When the character is mentioned in the story, pupils should hold up the correct
puppet(s) and do the actions.
•
After finishing the story, ask (use L1 if needed):
What does the Little Red Hen make? (Elicit: bread)
Do the yellow duck, the white cat, and the brown dog help the Little Red Hen?
(Elicit: No)
Who eats the bread at the end of the story? (Elicit: the Little Red Hen)
Do you help in your house? Who do you help? Do you help in school? Who do
you help?

Say: Open your Course Books to page 91. Look at #4.
•
Say: Number the pictures in the order they happen in the story. Use the story in
Epic Stories to help you.
•
Give pupils a few minutes to do this on their own or with a partner.
•
Call on a pupil to choose the picture that happens first in the story.
Have the pupil use relevant vocabulary to describe the scene in the picture.
Then call another pupil until all the pictures are in the correct sequence.
•
Reveal to check answers.
•
Along with the pupils, retell the whole story as you point to each picture. Elicit the
following (or any other logical response) for each picture:
1. The Little Red Hen, yellow duck, white cat, and brown dog live on a farm.
2. The Little Red Hen plants the wheat.
3. The Little Red Hen cuts the wheat.
4. The Little Red Hen makes the flour.
5. The Little Red Hen makes the bread.
6. The Little Red Hen eats the bread.
