ABC Notebook

Say: Open your ABC Notebooks to page 192.
•
Complete the page according to the instructions on page 15.
•
Read the words together with the pupils before they trace and write on their own.
Sound out each letter before putting the words together: get (remind pupils of the
chunk “get ready,” egg, bag
Say: Point to the letter G at the beginning of the word “get.” Point to the letter
G at the end of the words “egg, bag.”

Complete the page according to the instructions on page 15.

Read the words and sentence together with the pupils before they trace and write on
their own. Sound out each letter before putting the words together: big, hit, bit, list,
gift.
Teach the new vocabulary words "hit" and "bit" (use L1 if needed to explain the
meaning).
Say: Point to the letter I in the middle of the words “big, hit, bit, list, gift.”

Say: Open your Course Books to page 86. Look at #6.

Introduce the sight word: is
•
Point to the word "is" and say the word. Have pupils point to "is" in their books
and repeat the word.
Remind pupils of the lexical chunks “He is a boy. / She is a girl."
Tell pupils that this is another little word in English that they will see often and
that pupils should "take a picture of" it in their mind so they can recognize it.
Remind pupils of the sight word they learned previously: I, see, a, am, the, on.
Say: Color the word "is" in blue. Circle the word "is" in the box.
Ask: How many times did you circle the word "is"? (Elicit: 6)
