Give pupils a few minutes to explore the story on their own or with a partner by
scanning it in their Epic Stories book from page 63 to page 71. Ask:
Look at the pictures. Where does the story happen?
Find a picture of the animals: hen, dog, cat, and duck. What color are they?
Find and count the word “cat” in the text of the story. How many times did you
see it?
Say: Let’s read and find out what the animals on the farm do.
First Reading

Read the story The Little Red Hen all the way through (or play the audio file).
•
After reading, ask questions related to the story.
•
Ask: What does The Little Red Hen make in the story? (Elicit: bread)
•
Say: Look at the last page of the story (Epic Stories page 71). Ask:
What does the Little Red Hen have? (Elicit: bread)
Do the brown dog, the yellow duck and the white cat have bread? (Elicit: no)
Why not? (Elicit a response in L1 if needed)
Second Reading and Story Script: The Little Red Hen

Read the story again, page by page. While reading, stop at each page and ask
questions to ensure pupils comprehend and to elicit vocabulary that the pupils have
learned.

Pupils should follow along with the story in their Epic Stories book.
