Say: Open your ABC Notebooks to page 191.

Complete the page according to the instructions on page 15.

Read the words together with the pupils before they trace and write on their own.
Sound out each letter before putting the words together: fat, fast, left, self.
Teach the new vocabulary words "fast" and "self" (use L1 if needed to explain the
meaning).
Say: Point to the letter F at the beginning of the words “fat, fast.” Point to the
letter F in the middle of the word “left.” Point to the letter F at the end of the
word “self.”

Show 'fat' flashcard and ask: What is this? (Elicit: fat). Ask:
What sound do you hear at the beginning of the word ‘fat’? (Elicit: /f/)
What sound do you hear in the middle of the word ‘fat’? (Elicit: /a/)
What sound do you hear at the end of the word ‘fat’? (Elicit: /t/)
How many sounds does the word ‘fat’ have? (Elicit: 3)
Say and use your fingers to count the sounds: /f/ /a/ /t/ ‘fat’
Have the pupils say the sounds and count with you.
Teach the new vocabulary word "add" through the context of a question (use L1 if
needed to explain the meaning). Ask: Take away /t/ and add /n/, what do you hear?
(Elicit: /f/ /a/ /n/)
Show 'fan' flashcard and say together with the pupils: ‘fan’
Take away /f/ and add /m/ what do you hear? (Elicit: /m/ /a/ /n/)
Show 'man' flashcard and say together with the pupils: 'man'
Take away /n/ and add /t/, what do you hear? (Elicit: /m/ /a/ /t/)
Show 'mat' flashcard and say together with the pupils: 'mat'
Take away /m/ and add /k/, what do you hear? (Elicit: /k/ /a/ /t/)
Show 'cat' flashcard and say together with the pupils: 'cat'
