Say: Open your Course Books to page 76. Look at #5.

Introduce the sight word: (I) am
Point to the word "(I) am" and say the word. Have pupils point to "(I) am" in
their books and repeat the word.
Remind pupils of the lexical chunk “I am a boy/girl."
Tell pupils that this is another little word in English that they will see often and
that pupils should "take a picture of" it in their mind so they can recognize it.
Remind pupils of the sight word they learned previously: I, see, a

Say: Color the word "I" in blue. Color the word “am” in red.

Point to the images in the table. Ask: What do you see? (Elicit: I see a boy and a girl.)
•
Point to each word in the lexical chunk as you read together with the pupils, then
point to 'boy': I am a boy.
•
Ask a few pupils (boys and girl) to create sentences by saying: I am a…(+ image from
the box: boy/girl).
•
Say: Look at #6.
•
Point to #1. Read together with the pupils: I am a pupil.
•
Say: Trace and write the words. Read the sentences.
•
While pupils are working, walk around checking that pupils are tracing carefully on
the lines and writing the letters from left to right and top to bottom.
•
Reveal to check answers.
•
Call on different pupils to read/say each sentence.

Say: I live in (city or town name).
