Say: Open your ABC Notebooks to page 198.

Complete the page according to the instructions on page 15.

Read the words together with the pupils before they trace and write on their own.
Sound out each letter before putting the words together: mat, me, I am.
Say: Point to the letter M at the beginning of the words “mat, me.” Point to the
letter M at the end of the word “am.”
Vocabulary
Review

Review the vocabulary using the flashcards: gorilla, kangaroo, lion, zebra, alligator,
snake, elephant, monkey, ant, cat, bat, zoo.
Ask: Who remembers? (Elicit the words.)
Have pupils repeat the words.
New
•
Teach the new vocabulary using the flashcards.
Present each card one at a time and say the word: dog, duck, hen, farm.
Have pupils repeat the words.
Game
•
What am I? (game #16)
Play the game to review and practice the vocabulary: dog, duck, hen, gorilla,
kangaroo, lion, zebra, alligator, snake, elephant, monkey, cat, bat.
Act out one of the animals and make an animal noise. Ask: What am I?
Elicit the animal from the pupils. When they guess correctly, say: I am a (lion).
Repeat for several animals.
Choose a volunteer to act out an animal and have the pupil ask: What am I?
Have the class guess the animal, then have the volunteer say: I am a (dog).
Repeat so several pupils get a chance to act out an animal.
