Ask: What do you see? (Elicit: I see a(n) crayon, elephant, test, alligator, school,
balloon.)

Point to the letter bank and review by saying: The letter is A and the sound is /a/.
Repeat for each letter in the letter bank.

Say: Write the letter that makes the beginning sound of each word.

Reveal to check answers.
NOTE
•
Challenge strong pupils (or a strong class) to write the whole word "test," by
sounding the phonemes of the word out together.
Reading and Writing
Epic Stories
•
Say: Open your Epic Stories to page 58.
•
Say: Look at the pictures. What do you see?
(Elicit: I see a girl, a cat, and a bat.)
•
Point to the title of the story and read together
with the pupils: I See a Cat.
•
Read or play the audio track of the story. Have
pupils track the words with their finger as they read.
•
After finishing the story, ask: At the beginning, what did the girl see? (Elicit: a cat)
•
What did the cat see? (Elicit: a bat)
At the end, what did the girl see? (Elicit: a cat and a bat)
Read the story again, asking different pupils to read each box. Encourage pupils to
use proper intonation as they read the lines.
NOTE
•
Encourage the pupils to read the text several times. You may choose to assign the
text to the pupils to read to a parent or other adult outside of class.
