Sing “Happy Birthday” (song #1.52) to Mrs. Anderson.

Say: Open your Course Books to page 52. Look at #1.
•
Ask: What do you see? (Elicit: I see scissors and paper, glue, a poster, and a
(birthday) cake.)
•
Who do you see? (Elicit: I see Soo, Andy, Jamie, and Jamal.)
Say: Help the friends get ready for the birthday surprise for the teacher. Listen
and draw a line from the boy or girl to what they have.
Soo has paper and scissors.
Andy has the poster.
Jamie has the birthday cake.
Jamal has glue.

Reveal to check answers.
•
Ask: Who has the birthday cake? (Elicit: Jamie)
Repeat for the other pictures.

Say: Look at #2.
•
Say: Number the pictures in the order they happen in the story. Use the story in
Epic Stories to help you.
•
Give pupils a few minutes to do this on their own or with a partner.
•
Call on a pupil to choose the picture that happens first in the story.
Have the pupil use relevant vocabulary to describe the scene in the picture.
Then call another pupil until all the pictures are in the correct sequence.

Reveal to check answers.
•
Along with the pupils, retell the whole story as you point to each picture. Elicit the
following (or any other logical response) for each picture (especially focus on what
the characters have):
1. The friends are in the classroom.
2. Soo and Anne have crayons.
3. Mike, Andy, Soo, and Tom color the poster.
4. Jamie and Jamal glue the letters.
5. Mrs. Anderson is surprised.
6. Happy birthday, Mrs. Anderson!
