hear the sound – in the beginning, middle, or end of the word.

Ask: Do you hear /s/ in the beginning of the word? (Elicit: no)
Ask: Do you hear /s/ in the middle of the word? (Elicit: no)
Ask: Do you hear /s/ at the end of the word? (Elicit: yes)
Show pupils the check mark in the third box.

Say: Which words begin with the sound /s/? (Elicit: stop, star)
Say: Which words end with the sound /s/? (Elicit: bus, house)
