Review the letter A by showing the Aa flashcard and asking: What is the name of the
letter? (Elicit: the letter A)
What sound does it make? (Elicit: /a/)
What words do you know that begin with the letter A? (Elicit and put the
flashcards up on the board as pupils say the words: apple, ask, alligator, ant, etc.)
Say together with the pupils: The letter is A and the sound is /a/.
Repeat to review the letters T, B, C.

Review the vocabulary using the flashcards: sad, school, scissors, star, stop.
Ask: What is this? (Elicit: This is a...)
Ask: What sound do you hear at the beginning of the words? (Elicit: /s/)
Show the letter Ss flashcard and say: The letter is S and the sound is /s/.
Have the pupils repeat.
Say (use L1 if needed): Look at the letter S. What does it look like? (Elicit in L1: a
snake)
Teach the new vocabulary using the flashcards.
Present the card and say the word: snake.
Have pupils repeat the word.
Ask: What sound does a snake make? (Elicit: /sssss/)
Say: The letter is S and the sound is /s/.

Ask: What other words do you know that begin with the sound /s/? (Elicit: sister,
small, sit down, stand up, etc.)
What numbers begin with the sound /s/? (Elicit: six, seven)
