Point to the title and say: The name of the story is Together is Better. This is a story
about friends in the classroom.
•
Give pupils a few minutes to explore the story on their own or with a partner by
scanning it in their Epic Stories book from page 43 to page 57. Ask:
•
Find a picture of a boy or girl who has: crayons, paper, scissors, a pencil, glue.
On which page(s) did you find them?
Look at page 48. What do the friends have?
Teach the new lexical chunk "find out" through the context of a question (use L1 if
needed to explain the meaning). Say: Let’s read and find out what the friends do.
First Reading
•
Read the story Together is Better all the way through (or play the audio file).
•
After reading, ask questions related to the story.
•
Ask: What do the friends make in the story? (Elicit: a poster)
•
Say: Look at the last page of the story (Epic Stories page 57). Ask (use L1 if needed):
•
Whose birthday is it in the story? (Elicit: The teacher/Mrs. Anderson)
How does Mrs. Anderson (the teacher) feel at the end of the story? (Elicit: Mrs.
Anderson feels happy.)
Say: Let's read the story again and see what more we can learn about the friends in
the story.
Second Reading and Story Script: Together is Better
•
Read the story again, page by page. While reading, stop at each page and ask
questions to ensure pupils comprehend and to elicit vocabulary that the pupils have
learned.
•
Pupils should follow along with the story in their Epic Stories book.
