Writing
•
Remind pupils that every letter in the alphabet has a big letter and a small letter.
Show the big and small letters on the ABC poster.
•
Remind pupils of the house and that English is written from left to right and from top
to bottom.
•
Show or draw an empty letter house.
•
Write a big B and a small b in the house. Be sure to show how to write the letters,
their position within the house, where to begin each line, and the proper direction to
draw them. Say:
•
Look at how big B starts in the roof… and goes into the house. Then starts again
in the roof… and goes into the house.
And small b starts in the roof… and goes into the house. Then starts again in the
house.
Trace the big letter B on the board and have pupils write the letter with their finger in
the air or on their desks, then repeat with small letter b.
As you trace, say together with the pupils: The letter is B and the sound is /b/.

Point to the letter Bb. Trace the letters with your finger on the board. Have the pupils
trace in their Course Books.
As you trace, say together with the pupils: The letter is B and the sound is /b/.
•
Say: Write the first letter of the word under each picture. Write the big letter and
