Look at this web page. What is it about? (green
bikes)
What do you think of when you hear the word ‘green’? (the color and the environment)
How can a bike be more ‘green’ than it already is? (Accept all logical guesses – directly
from the text: by turning the pedals you produce energy, such as electricity; accept all
logical answers based on what was discussed earlier in the unit.)
Why do you think the bike thief stole only green bikes? (Accept all logical answers, but try
to get to the idea that the thief got confused and thought that the ‘green’ bikes should be
the color green.)
Who remembers what we have already said about Lance Armstrong? (Summarize with
the students what they have learned about Lance Armstrong until now.)
Reading
Now read the passage to the students, one paragraph
at a time, like before.
Ask:
What is Lance Armstrong’s favorite invention?

Why is Lance coming to Greenville? (for the
Green Show)
What’s special about the Green Show? (It’s to
see who has the greenest bike, i.e. the most
environmentally friendly bike.)
How is a bike green? (It doesn’t use electricity or
gas, some even make energy. If necessary, develop the idea of being green as
something we do or use that saves energy and doesn’t pollute the world.)
