Open your Detective’s Notebook.
Today we are going to start writing clues in our
Detective’s Notebook.
In our Detective’s Notebook we will write
important information about the stories we
read.
Write the word ‘CHARACTERS’ on the first page. (Write the word on the board.)
Who do we already know? (Tom, Kate, Jack, Amy and Professor Sparky)
Write each character’s name and his/her description in your notebooks.
Who’s new here? (Bill, green-faced guy and Al)
What do we know about them? (Have students read the descriptions in exercise 1b page 36 in the student's book.)
Copy their names and their descriptions into your Detective's Notebook.
Who can tell us what has happened in our story so far? (Have students review the
storyline from Unit One.)
Now write the word ‘CLUES’ on the next page. (Write the word on the board.)
What do you remember from Unit One? (Write the points on the board.)
1. Someone stole green bikes. All the stolen bikes are green.
2. Someone stole the bikes on Tuesday and on Wednesday.
3. On the way to the basketball game, there was a man with a green face. He was
going the wrong way.
Write the word ‘SUSPECTS’ on another page in your Detective’s Notebook. (Write the
word on the board and explain what it means. This is a new word.)
Write the names of the characters you think might be suspects.
Next to each name write why you think this person is a suspect. (The green-faced guy MoCa took a picture of him at the bike rack and he was walking the wrong way to a
basketball game.)
How do you think these new characters are connected to the story? (Accept all logical
answers.)
