THE DETECTIVES - TEACHER’S GUIDE
VI. Structure of the Student’s Book
The book consists of six units. Each unit is divided into parts. Units 1-5 comprise 8-10 parts, unit 6
includes 3 parts. Each part could take 3-4 lessons, depending on the level of the class and their pace
of work.
Each unit takes place in Lakeview, Tom and Kate’s hometown. The unit opens by introducing the
characters that will appear in the unit and a short discussion around them (Let’s Meet).
The unit’s parts are all titled in order to provide clues about the section.
Each unit is a different mystery that needs to be solved. The students learn to look for clues, to
notice small details, and finally, to sum up their findings in their Detective’s Notebook.
Unit 1 – The Bicycle Thief (1) (9 parts)
Unit 2 – The Bicycle Thief (2) (10 parts)
Unit 3 – Mystery at the Museum (8 parts)
Unit 4 – The Eco-Detectives (10 parts)
Unit 5 – Problems at School (9 parts)
Unit 6 – It's Not Over Yet! (3 parts)
VII. Structure of the Workbook
The Workbook follows the structure of the Student's Book. Every Unit and every Part within the Unit
in the Student's Book has a parallel Unit and a parallel Part in the Workbook.
The aim of the Workbook is to practice and reinforce the objectives and the benchmarks as outlined
in the Student's Book. The texts and activities have been designed to cater to the needs of the
heterogeneous class. Activities come in three levels of difficulty:
No smile – easiest

The following types of exercises appear in every part of every unit:
Reading comprehension exercises on the texts presented in the Student's Book.
Vocabulary exercises that practice the vocabulary in the unit, mainly the new words
introduced in each part.
Extra reading passages, related to the format or the content of the passages in the Student's
Book.
Writing exercises related to the format or the content of the passages in the Student's Book.
Language focus exercises following introduction of the language structures in the Student's
Book.
