THE DETECTIVES - TEACHER’S GUIDE - Unit 6
Extra Activity:
Simpler: Have each student do only one country and then in groups of four share the information
they found.
More challenging: Have the students fill in the chart and then choose one of the four countries or
cities and find more information about it. They are to write a page about the place they've chosen.
Extra: WebQuest (optional) (page 216)
Have the students work on the WebQuest. (It’s similar to the exercise above but there is more
information and the reading and writing is done online.)
They are to follow the instructions online.
Part 3: Going to London (pages 217-224)
Let’s remember
Ask:
What did Tom and Kate receive? (an invitation and plane tickets)
Where are they invited to? (a party in London)
Who invited them? (His Royal Highness)
Do they know who "His Royal Highness" is? (no)
Discuss the title of this section. HOTS
Ask:
What do you think is going to happen in this part of the unit? (Accept all logical answers.)
What might be special about getting on a plane? (Accept all logical answers.)
1. Let’s Listen! (track 61) (page 217)
Say:
You are going to listen to a conversation
between Tom and Kate.
Copy the table on page 217 into your
notebooks.
Listen to the conversation twice. While you
listen, mark the things that Tom and Kate do on
the plane.
Then listen again and answer the questions in
exercise 2.
Before you start, read the questions so you’ll
know what is being asked of you.
