Why do you think Bradley doesn’t like Carla? (accept logical answers – it seems it’s because
she’s a teacher)
What does Carla want from Bradley? (for him to teach her things)
What does Bradley teach Carla? (about elephants)
Have the students read paragraph three quietly.
Then ask:
Why does Bradley think he’s been tricked when he teaches her about elephants? (accept
logical answers)
Why do you think Bradley says that teachers make kids do things all the time? (accept logical
answers)

What do you think of this piece of the book?
Would you like to read the entire thing?
Why do you think Bradley was called into Carla’s office? (lead towards him being a bully/ no
one likes him so he does things that bother others perhaps)
Say:
Imagine that you are in Bradley’s class.
You want to help him feel that people do like him.
Write one suggestion of what the kids in your class can do to make the boy feel more liked.
Then you’ll share it with the class.

Carla is different from Bradley's teachers in that
a) she asks Bradley to teach HER something
b) she says that in her room there aren't any rules
By the end of the story Bradley has changed, because Carla isn't at all what
he expected. He is so surprised by this that he runs out of her office without
even saying 'goodbye'.
